Powerful Communication Skills: Being Clear Concise and Kind
with Michelle Waters

Today’s workplace demands “fluency” in business communication. We must continually adapt our communication to the needs of various audiences including senior leaders, internal and external customers, co-workers and direct reports. No matter who the audience, we must always pay attention to the quality of our communication so that we are purposeful, clear, concise and kind. In this course you will…

• Learn a model of communication that will illuminate the communication choices we have
• Understand common barriers to effective communication
• Apply three primary purposes of communication to enhance clarity
• Reduce wordiness and select the right words for the right occasion
• Learn a simple method for ensuring that we are striking the right balance between clarity and kindness.

With over twenty years of corporate training experience, Michelle Waters enables others to enrich their lives through empowered communication. Her teaching philosophy is that learning should be relevant, challenging and fun -- all at the same time! She creatively crafts her courses with this in mind. Michelle teaches leadership, customer service and presentation skills classes for businesses throughout Santa Cruz County. She has an educational background in psychology and communication studies, and is also a Development Dimensions International (DDI) certified trainer. When not teaching, you can find Michelle with her family in Disneyland.

Talent Management: An Holistic Approach to Managing our Most Valuable Asset

Presenters:
Interim AVC, Lori Castro
Assistant Employment Manger, Amy Kile
Assistant Compensation Manager, Madlyn Norman-Terrance
Assistant Employee Relations Manager, Bill Parro

Human resources are an organization's most valuable asset. The approach to managing these resources, otherwise known as Talent, is critical to an organization's success. Without a well-defined talent management strategy—one that unifies recruiting, onboarding, learning, performance, and succession—an organization is prone to high turnover, reduced productivity and low employee morale. Within a holistic talent management strategy, HR guides each employee through every phase of their employment – from hire to retire or transition. HR delivers this guidance through frequent feedback, training, career development, and engagement activities - activities pre-aligned with the organization’s short- and long-term goals. The Staff HR Management Team will share their plans for creating a holistic talent management strategy for the campus that includes Career Tracks as well as initiatives aligned with talent acquisition and employee retention.
